For cardio exercise, bikes and ellipticals are the most suitable exercise machine. They also help to maintain the fitness of the body. That’s why as a beginner it is important to choose the better one for cardio. 

Benefits of Elliptical Machine


An elliptical machine is a popular choice for cardio exercise. It is a cross workout between a stair stepper and a ski machine. They let your legs go up and down with a pair of handles to back and forth with your hand. This machine has an intensity level that works for both the lower and upper body. Using the elliptical machine is one of the best ways to burn calories. Within an hour it can burn up to 670 calories. It works with your full body.  Moveable handles work for your arms and shoulder, paddles give intense hard-working to hamstrings, quadriceps, and glutes. Moreover, it puts less pressure on your joints than riding the exercise bike. It is helpful for knee or hip-injured people. According to   Harvard medical school's estimates, 30  minutes of exercise burns approximately 270 calories.

 There are two types of bikes: an exercise bike and a stationary bike, both of them are great for a cardiovascular workout.It needs little coordination and its resistance is adjustable to make it harder that will power your muscles to work harder. It depends on the speed of the cycling that, how many calories you will burn.A person with 155 pounds can burn 260 calories if cycles at an average speed for 30 minutes said by Harvard medical school. At the intense level, it can burn 391 calories within 30 minutes. With the elliptical, it is not possible to burn a huge amount of calories within this period of time. An exercise bike plays a vital role to strengthen your legs and core without pressure on your joints. 

What Is Better for Cardio Bike or Elliptical


According to talkforfitness, an exercise bike burns more calories than the elliptical.  It is excercisers favorite to lose weight. The elliptical however strengthens the whole body by engaging more muscles. Both of them are low-impact exercise machines. The elliptical machine bears more weight than a bike that may help improve bone health. If you have knee or ankle injuries it is the perfect choice for cardiovascular. The main purpose of the cardio exercise is to get the expected heart rate. To get a targeted heart rate you have to push the bike's pedals more. Therefore a bike is better than an elliptical for cardio exercise. 

Bottom Line

Though they are in different structures both of them work for cardio. As they have pros and cons, you should look at the comparative discussion above to select the best one. Some experts don’t compare them but leave them to your demand. However, according to my research, I have found the bike more suitable for cardiovascular exercise than the elliptical.
